Mirrors and Echoes: The San Francisco Rothko Microsite & Immersive Experience

Goal: To create a digital experience around a selling tool, and sourcing initiatives for Sotheby’s specialists for a confidential proposal pitch. We were asked to develop a bespoke, dedicated digital catalog experience that pulled together all aspects of the storytelling for one work of art for The San Francisco Rothko proposal to help win the consignment.  We decided the best means to do this was to produce a microsite with a dedicated URL. The following was the initial design storyboard created, which needed to live as:

• Standalone embedded applications on tablets that can be shipped to clients or handed out in galleries

• Large touchscreen-enabled monitors or projectors that can be installed on gallery walls

• Microsite with dedicated URL

Karlssonwilker created a responsive site that allowed viewers to immerse themselves in the unique story of an ‘artist’ and one painting, delivering thoughtful and relevant content through a user-driven journey across all multimedia. The experience provided opportunities for deeper engagement, such as zooming-in on features, seeing the work in 360-degrees, exploring maps, hearing the artist's audio interview, etc. and, book private viewings via the calendar.
